Pleural Mesothelioma
Mesothelium of chest and lungs forms the lining of the chest cavity and when malignancy is detected in this region it is called pleural Mesothelioma and in most cases it is almost symptom-less seems alike a viral pneumonia. In the first stage of this carcinoma it is found that the patient is suffering from long lasted coughing, weight-loss and respiratory problem like breath shortness. In most of the cases, it is found that the symptoms deficiency of this disease makes unnecessary delay for thorough investigation, hence, diagnosis is also delayed. In some cases, the symptoms include fever, weight-loss, and sweating at night. In normal x-ray a pleural effusion may be found on the lining of the lung that seems to be simple case of fluid accumulation on the lung.
Pleural effusion is of two types depending on the nature of the fluid. The first variation is transduates type, and the second variant is exudates type of fluid. Transduates type of fluid is clear in look and forms due to the pleural surface disease. An imbalance between the normal production and the natural removal of the fluid is the main reason to form this kind of fluid. Congestive type of heart failure is one of the reasons that form the transduate type of fluid. Exudates type of fluid is formed due to the disease in pleura itself. It is cloudy in look and generally contains lot many cells. By application of thoracentisis method the nature of the fluid can be detected.
The treatment of pleural Mesothelioma includes x-ray or CT scan and biopsy afterward for the detection of the disease. Generally, when doctors find the recurring formation of the fluid they arrange for drainage in chest tube and a method is applied called chemical pleurodosis. In this process a kind of scelorising material is used that work as an agent to increase the adhesion between the parietal and visceral pleura. It has been observed that success rate in this method of pleurodosis is almost 95%.
